Blond abbey beer - Saint Wandrille
(16,17 € / L)
Saint-Wandrille beer is so far the only one produced in France, brewed and bottled by monks in their monastery.
It owes its color to a harmonious blend of several malts, ensuring roundness in the mouth with light notes of caramel. Hops, grown in France, give it woody and spicy aromas.

“Sicera Humolone: with these two Latin words, Saint Anségise, abbot of Saint-Wandrille, designates, in a charter of 829, the hop beer that his community was never to lack. Wanting to rediscover this drink with intense scents, the monks of Saint-Wandrille have developed a light beer in alcohol and bitterness, both refreshing and easy to drink. Carrying the aroma of a ray of sunshine on ripe fruit, Sicera Humolone offers the joyful flavors of a summer stroll in the Saint-Saturnin orchard. "
In Bière Magazine n ° 101, published in October 2018, Gilbert Delos, beerologist and journalist comments on his tasting:
Foam: white, very fine, abundant and persistent.
Color: slightly golden yellow, veiled.
Nose: fresh, predominantly hoppy, citrus and yellow fruit notes.
Palate: fresh attack on lime and other citrus fruits, with sparkle. The body is light, thirst-quenching, while bitterness develops in the background. A little yellow plum, accompanied by citrus fruits. Long finish marked more and more by bitterness, which persists for a long time, making the beer very thirst-quenching.
Comment: Very different from their first creation, it testifies to the good level already reached by the monks of Saint-Wandrille.
"It has the color of an amber, but the freshness and the roundness of a blonde"
