Pollen is particularly rich in vitamin B, minerals, carbohydrates and proteins. It is sold as a food supplement (dry pollen and also raw pollen or fresh pollen) for its fortifying and stimulating effects. Western medicine has not scientifically validated its benefits. But in China, traditional medicine has used pollen for centuries, especially in preparations to improve memory. Pollen contains immunostimulatory substances which theoretically strengthen the immune system. Some athletes attribute their performance to the benefits of pollen, but no study has confirmed these claims.
