Why agroecology?
"We were arriving in a difficult context for agriculture and we had to face the realities of today's rural world, with questions of an economic nature (how to make a living from the land in our time?) And ethical (what food quality for the products we are going to sell and which would feed our brothers men?).
We were given the opportunity, with this land for which we felt more responsible than owners, to make choices consistent with what we are above all: Christians, members of the church which is Body of Christ. Opportunity also, in today's world, so in search of its spiritual roots, to open a path that testifies to a Christian spiritual vision of the matter. In faith, we draw the conviction that man was not placed by God in the world to dominate him, in search of an unlimited profit, but that his function is to be like the choirmaster of a creation made to sing the glory of its Author.
But how can we concretely carry out this beautiful project? Some of our friends, as seasoned economists, suggested that we uproot all our crops and do something else; the establishment of organic farming was obvious to us, but this field, which was initially loss-making, could not assume it; in total, it was unreasonable to embark on a family-scale agriculture, at a time when all the small farms closed or were absorbed by the industrialists of agriculture. It was during these dilemmas that we met Pierre Rabhi, and that we were able to really get to the bottom of things. He dared to tell us: the earth is the future! and strongly advised us not to give it up. And we got started. "
